Our Story
“How worried are you about this?” I recall messaging my lawyer friend a few months ago with an article about how Obgerfell vs. Hodges might be up for debate by the Supreme Court again. “Very,” she replied.
This would prompt several conversations with friends and my partner about our fear of never being able to marry, how we would need to start reimagining our futures, and what it meant for each of our relationships. As months passed, we watched friends and online mutuals run to the courthouse to get married in beautiful but bittersweet ceremonies, declaring that they’d rather do it now in an abundance of caution than not be able to in the future. They weren’t crazy. We had just watched how quickly our reproductive rights had been scaled back and none of us seemed keen on taking any risks in this political climate.
Two weeks ago, I saw an article about how Texas has already been making moves on repealing the marriage equality act and I decided that it was time to do something for my community. I blocked the final few “friends” who I knew voted for Trump and got to assembling a team of some of the best designers I knew. Together, we created this library of beautiful, thoughtful, and free design assets for LGBTQ+ individuals who are rushing to City Hall. Because they deserve for their love to feel special and celebrated too, despite their rushed timeline.
Thank you to our designers and donors for making this possible.
Love, WeHaul
